PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Appearance:
Standing at an average height of 5’10, at first Miguel O’Hara doesn’t seem all that threatening. With his thin seeming body, light almond complexion, small, cheerful smile, he looks like the typical push over. But beneath the jeans and casual shirts, lies a strong, mutated body of a man at his most fit and prime. His absolute tight frame shows each of his hardened muscles and from his arms, to his chest, and down to his legs and calves. He is the epitome of the strongman sought out by militaries and modeling agencies; especially for his face…
A thin face and strong chin are probably the first thing noticed about Miguel. This is followed by his thin, cheerful eyes that hold a mystery of strength and fortitude. Normally they shine with a deep shade of brown, but due to his accident, now occasionally flare with a deep shade of predatory red. His eyebrows are wispy shades of dark brown, while his hair (of the same color) is usually is cut short and wavers between disheveled and combed back in a depending on his mood or where he is coming from.
However, the most notable is his smile. Charming, his lips always seemed stretched in a self-satisfied grin that can be utterly intoxicating and endearing to those people that watch him grin.
Special Features:
His being spliced with spider DNA has left Miguel with dark red irises in his eyes (which show his enhanced vision and light sensitivity) and possess retractable talons on the tips of his fingers and toes. Additionally he has sharpened canines that secrete venom. These do not retract and require Miguel to be careful on how he speaks and other, general activities, regarding his teeth.
Clothing:
Miguel dresses like anyone else from his home dimension, in casual clothing of slacks, jeans, and shirts. He does wear the occasion black leather jacket but these are on rare occasions as he likes his jacket and his work as Spider-Man can lead him to easily discard it.
If he needs to look professional, Miguel does own a couple of suits and a nice pair of black leather shoes, but he is not one to enjoy professional attire much. He would much rather prefer the freedom of comfortable clothing so will be antsy if he must dress up.
Special Clothing:
The only “specialty” item that Miguel wears on his person is a set of durable sunglasses. He wears these whenever he is out in daylight and carries them when he expects to have to travel in the light hours. These are important and keep him from harming his eyes or causing disorientation when out in the bright of day.
However, there is also the matter of his Spider-Man costume.
A deep, midnight blue, his costume molds perfectly to his body and shows off his lean, tightly formed body. A red skull is emblazed upon his chest but eight, long tendrils extend along the edges of his uniform, framing his body in a truly terrifying visage in the shape of a deadly spider. Long his mask, the same red, dreadful lines curve above his brows and down across his jawline. Additionally, extending from his shoulders is a small, half-cape of webbing that allows Miguel to catch the air currents that flow throughout the towering metropolis of Nueva York and glide far and speedily. Made of unstable molecules, his uniform allows him some protection from harm, but also compensates for his talons, not tearing as he grips onto surfaces.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Personality:
Miguel’s personality has gone through some changes over the years but deep down he still shows signs of his old self. Prior to his becoming Spider-Man of Nueva York, Miguel O’Hara was a vain, smug individual who believed that his intelligence was beyond most people. Having graduated from the Alchemax School for Gifted Youngsters, Miguel possesses a sharp intellect that has led him to be rather pompous about his skills. His vanity even led the man to commit adultery. But time and circumstance has smoothed out the man’s rough edges.
The future Spider-Man, after gaining his powers and being set upon by a bounty hunter, has developed a new found sense of compassion and justice. Though there is still the underlying sense of smugness when it comes to fighting his opponents, Miguel really only has the best of intentions now. Having realized the monstrous organization he has been a part of for many years, he hopes to make amends for his actions by fighting the good fight.
But these are only glimpses into the mind of Miguel O’Hara:
- Justice: Miguel now believes in justice. He wants to make the world a better place, one that is better than the one he helped to create. Because of this, he will jump into the fray and aid whoever he can when he is needed. Additionally, Miguel will not kill, as he feels that will not help atone for the harm he has caused in the past.
- Wit: He likes to consider himself very witty, especially when challenging foes. However this can come off as a little smug, as Miguel taunts his appointments, assured of his skills. More than once this can lead him into trouble, but more often than not, it serves as an excellent distraction for his enemies.
- Infidelity: Unfortunately, though Miguel loves his wife, he does have a wandering eye for the ladies. That does not mean he treats them badly, just that he is in love with love. Though he does try to stay faithful and has for a good while with his wife.
- High Intellect: Miguel is extremely intelligent. There is no two ways to say it; he is smart and has a specialization in the field of genetics. Miguel has shown a genius level intellect since he was a boy and his education at Alchemax School for Gifted Youngsters, and years of working for the same corporation, has only fostered his intelligence to high levels.
Skills:
- Genetics: On top of being smart, Miguel also has a proficiency for genetics. His years of study has allowed him to witness the very building blocks of life, making him skilled at biology, zoology, and entomology.
- Speed Reading: Clearly being as intelligent as he is, Miguel requires skill in keeping up with what he is reading. Miguel can read very quickly, around 950 words per minute, of printed text and slightly faster on digitized text.
- Hand-to-Hand Combat: His gifts has allowed Miguel to come up with a freestyle fighting that allows him to take advantage of his more powerful traits. This can make him a blur on the battlefield and especially in everyday life when people do not assume that the thin man has any self-defense skill. However, that is not to say that he invulnerable when fighting. If he were to come up against someone faster or hit with a lucky shot by someone much stronger than him, Miguel would definitely be in trouble.
- Tech: Miguel, coming from the future, is very skilled at technology. However, if he were to come across technology that is far older than what he is used to, he could be left clueless.
- Charm: Lastly, he does possess a dazzling charm that has left the man, at times, irresistible. He knows how to work a crowd, he shows self-assurance and confidence, and many a time a young lady can find themselves angling for his attention.
Weapons / Gear (if any):
- Web Foil Cape: Attached to his costume is a web-foil cape that allows the future Arachnid to take to the air. Though he cannot actually fly, he can glide on air currents, utilizing them to travel farther, and faster, than he could move on his own.
Alignment:
Hero
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Powers:
Because his lab accident spliced his DNA with that of a spider, Miguel O’Hara has been grant many of the same, and also different, abilities of everyone’s favorite Wall-Crawler:
- Enhanced Physical Capabilities: Being spliced with a spider has altered Miguel’s body dramatically. Though he looks like any normal human being, Miguel has been gifted with enhanced Strength, Speed, Stamina, Durability, Agility and Reflexes. He can lift upwards of 6 tons, produces far less fatigue toxins, and his quick and agile enough to being almost untouchable. Miguel’s body has advanced to superhuman levels, putting him on par with several of the stronger heroes and villains, and thank goodness he can take a beating and still come back for more.
- Talons and Fangs: Miguel’s body has been altered by the splicing in more ways that just within. As a result, Miguel now possesses retractable razor-sharp talons on the tips of his fingers and toes. They can easily cut through most materials, which is what allows him to cling to most surfaces. Additionally, Miguel now possesses fangs which are not retractable. They secrete a non-toxin, paralyzing venom which allows him to more easily subdue harder-to-stop foes.
- Spinnerets and Webbing: In his forearms he has organic spinnerets that allow him to shoot lines of webbing out, much like the Spider-Man of the past. He can use this webbing to create lines to swing on, to stop foes, etc. But, even though his webbing his organic in nature, Miguel’s body can tire from producing webbing and, when that happens, he needs to rest at least a few hours for it to replenish.
- Accelerated Visions: Though Miguel doesn’t possess the original Spider-Man’s famous “spider-sense”, he does possess an accelerated vision that allows him to see fast moving objects and even grant him time to adjust and react to them.
Strengths:
There are many strengths to Miguel’s power base, some that can seem far more surprising than realized:
- Inventive Combat: Because of his altered strength, speed, and flexibility, Miguel has a unique fighting style all his own. It allows him to move fast, strike hard, and dodge around his opponents with a grace that is hard to follow, much less predict.
- Inventive Weaponry: His spinnerets and imagination allow for Miguel to have a variety of ways of dealing with his opponents. Webbing can he used to trap or disarm opponents, at the same time he can use it to make quick getaways or even hide objects it out of reach places. Most importantly, his webbing is all organic and internal which allows him a ready supply near constantly.
- Quick Sight and Reflexes: Miguels enhanced vision allows him to see and react to the fast moving world around him with utmost precision. This is extremely helpful in that is it much harder for foes to get the drop on him.
- Stealthy: His speed and lightfootedness allows for Miguel to be particularly adept at being stealthy. He can move fast and unseen, hiding in shadows patiently until the absolutely perfect moment to strike.
Weaknesses:
Though there are many, many perks to Miguel’s abilities, they are not without their own faults:
- Fangs: Sadly, Miguel’s fang cannot retract and can be clearly seen if he is not careful. Miguel has to try hard to talk without showing off his fangs and this can lead to problem if, say, he kisses or attempts to give someone mouth-to-mouth. His fangs secrete a paralyzing toxin that, while non-deadly, can be a rather large nuisance.
- Light Sensitivity: His enhanced vision has made Miguel very sensitive to light and requires him to wear sunglasses when out in the daylight. If he were to lose his glasses, whether by accident or brawling, he would have to shield his eyes or move into a darker setting in order to keep away from the pain and disorientation.
- Durable But Not Immortal: Though Spider-Man has a quick and powerful body, he is still just a mortal man. If he were to lose to someone stronger than him, he can easily be knocked out or badly hurt. Additionally, while he can take most melee weapons, firearms, energy projectiles, etc., they can still cause a massive amount of damage to his body if he is not careful.
- Webbing: Though Miguel’s webbing is internal and organic, he will eventually run out. In order to combat this, he needs several hours of rest before he will be a full webbing capacity.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND
History:
Miguel has always had an interest in science. As a child, he showed remarkable skill and a genius level intellect to the point that he was enrolled in the Alchemax School for Gifted Youngsters. During his years there, he met the person that would become his future wife, Xina Kwan. Starting out as best friends, the pair relied on each other to get past the difficulties of school and young life until they both graduated with flying colors. Even despite the hiccups of Miguel’s infidelity, both he and Xina managed to ride the wave of hurt feelings and open wounds until they found one another again as young adults. It was then that Miguel asked Xina to marry him and would attempt to never make the same mistakes.
But mistakes were bound to happen.
In the world of Nueva York, Miguel found himself focusing his scientific studies on Genetics for the worldwide corporation known as Alchemax. Before long Miguel found himself as the project head of Alchemax’s genetics program and thus instilling within him a smug sense of self-satisfaction. After a few years, Miguel did wonders for the Genetic department but despite his success in the Alchemax hierarchy, he would eventually learning some terrifying truths.
A powerful and dangerously addictive drug known as Rapture exists in the world; a drug created released by the Alchemax corporation. Though nothing connects the company to the drug, rumors rumble and course through the building, adding to the infamy that Miguel was initially blind to. However, his eyes would open wide when his research into human / animal genetic splicing led to some terrifying results. Pressured into human testing, Miguel proceeded with his experiment on an innocent man who would be transformed into a hideous creature and would quickly die. Realizing the inhumanity Alchemax displays, Miguel decided that he would quit. With his letter of leave in hand, he announced his plans to leave the company to his boss, Tyler Stone. But Mr. Stone, knowing of Miguel’s genius, had other plans.
Rapture. Slipped into Miguel’s glass of water, the geneticist accidentally drinks and instantly becomes addicted to the drugging. Stone had hoped that Miguel’s new dependency on the drug would keep him working for Alchemax but instead Miguel hoped to cure himself. Climbing into his own experimental chamber (which had also been sabotaged by an accomplice), Miguel switched on the device only to have destiny thrust upon him.
Besides curing his addiction to Rapture, Miguel’s genetic code was spliced with that of a spider. In a blind, painful fury, Miguel fled the Alchemax building and made his way home. Initially unsure of what this was going to do to him. However, he would soon learn of Alchemax’s attempts to cover-up what had happen at the labs. A cybernetic bounty hunter followed Miguel back to his apartment building. In order to conceal his identity, Miguel make a quick outfit out of an old Day of the Dead costume he had had in his closet. Donning the new outfit, Miguel battled and defeated his pursuer, his identity safe from the Alchemax and the Public Eye.
Now, with his new abilities, Miguel has devoted himself to attempting to bring Alchemax down and save the citizens of Nueva York from not only their tyranny, but from foes not matter where they originate.
RP Sample:
The neon lights of Nueva York. They burned so bright, cutting into the night and turning it into an artificial day, one that keeps the people of the city up and spending more money, traveling in their speeding cars, and even participating in illegal activities. One would think that so much light would diffuse the fear that comes with night-based criminal activity; but it evolved. Instead of petty crime happening in the dead of night, it happens in dark alleys, in the gutted out remains of buildings, or simply in the broad of the light. Everything from robberies, to muggings, illegal car races, fighting, they all happen as close to public view as possible.
Tonight, however, the crime of choice is a drug deal. Rapture has been flooding the streets, getting people addicted on the molecular level so that they will pay anything and everything to satisfy their needs. News captured through a pirated Public Eye broadcast stated that a massive deal was supposed to be doing down in the shadows of the old A.I. chip manufacturing plant. The Public Eye, a massive security force owned by Alchemax (who also manufactures Rapture) gave orders that the deal is supposed to go off without a hitch.
It’s a good thing Miguel O’Hara, otherwise known as Spider-Man has other plans.
The trip to the A.I. computer chip factor was swift. Gliding through the air currents of the towering buildings and swinging on lines of webbing gave his trip speed and an acrobatic flare. Tumbling and spinning through the empty air, Spider-Man dodged and weaved around the piercing architecture, slipping through the spaces and gliding long distances. Before he knew it, he was at the factory, landing with a soundless thud onto an array of piping before crawling along into the dark shadows of a crevice. Hunched in his corner, he peered out at the scene below.
The man down there stood, nervous as he peered up and down the building. He was a bald man with frosty white hair and thin glasses perched upon his hook-like nose. He wore a white coat, the kind that lab technicians wear, but when Miguel’s enhanced sight looked closer, he realized that it was a doctor’s coat. This man was a doctor? Alchemax was selling to a hospital?
A roar of an engine and Miguel hid back into his shadows. He watched as a hover car slowly lowered and soundlessly came to a stop not far from the Doctor. From within came a large, professionally dressed man with blonde hair and an earpiece hidden in his left ear. The man pressed his fingertips to it, nodded as if he were listening to instructions and approached the man.
“You have the money?”
“Yes. A-Are you sure no one will catch us? I don’t usually do these runs myself but my last guy—“
“Pops, it’s not our fault your last man was sloppy. Now, give me the money, and your order of Rapture is yours.”
“I-I don’t normally do this, but…the patients. We make so much money when we get out patients addicted. They keep coming back for prescriptions and we charge them—“
“Pops! I don’t need your life story and you’re wasting my time. The money.”
Spider-Man watched as the older doctor nodded and opened his briefcase. In it he saw wealth of cards. Aluminum, gold, platinum, Miguel could only wonder where the man had gotten all those. Probably through means that were best left to the imagination. A glance at the seller and he could see that man was extremely pleased. The greed was clear on his face as he nodded and pulled out a pair of briefcases from the back of his car. They were massive and more than likely contained copious amounts of Rapture.
The exchange was made. That was Miguel’s cue to jump into action.
The webbing he struck both briefcases with bound them together and held them tight against the ground. The shock was evident on the faces of these criminals as Spider-Man swung into action, calling to them with a “tsk, tsk” sound and a wag of his finger.
“Shame, shame! Don’t you know that corner drugstores don’t ACTUALLY need to be in corners?”
“Shock! It’s the Spider!” The Doctor cringed and ran.
The seller didn’t flinch as he pulled a gun from his coat. “Shaddup, old timer. I got ‘em.”
“Got me?” The pistol fired and Spider-Man easily dodged. “I didn’t know you were a fan!” Another dodge of another gunshot. “You got my latest action figure? How about my Christmas album? Buy now and get a shirt for free!”
The gun fired over and over again but Spider-Man was quick enough to dodge and slip around each shot until finally the clip was empty. Using the opportunity, Miguel fired a line of webbing and swung off his perch, landing directly next to the man. He grinned under his mask as the seller suddenly struck out, actually attempting a fist-to-fist confrontation. However, the vigilante was far too quick for that. He slipped and dodged around each blow, moving with an unseen speed as he shouted “Missed!” “Strike one!” “Too slow” around each punch or kick. Finally, when he was bored with dodge, Miguel grinned under his mask and slipped backwards, arms crossed over his chest.
“My turn!” The movement was so fast the seller could scarcely see him. A leap forward and landing behind, Spider-Man lashed out, his taloned fingers slicing across the man’s back before the vigilante delivered a powerful kick to the back of his head. Within seconds the seller fell into an unconscious heap and the arachnid nodded with a triumphant smile. “Phew, almost had to sweat there!”
“Oh my god! Help!” the voice of the frantic doctor, which had been hidden a moment ago, shouted as he ran off down the alley. After webbing the seller to the ground, a quick turn and Spider-Man did the same to the fleeing doctor, only this time webbing him in a comical, running position on the wall.
Miguel chuckled. “Come on, doc. Didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you?”
“FREEZE, SPIDER-MAN! THIS IS THE PUBLIC EYE! YOU ARE WANTED!!”
Miguel looked up. Through the dark blues of his mask he watched as three Public Eye transports hovered in the air above him. Within moments the he could see officers, paid employees of Alchemax aim their rifles while others prepared to descend to the ground. With a roll of his head, he prepared to raised his arms, a sign of defeat.
“Guess I’m just Mr. Popular today.” However, a quick flick of his wrists and he sent to lines of webbing to the narrow walls. Before the officers could respond, Miguel flexed the webbing and slung shot himself into the sky before gliding and web swinging away. The Public Eye wouldn’t be far behind him, but he was curious to see how long they could keep up.
A smile crept across his face.
