Age: 32 (appears mid-to-late twenties due to vampiric immortality)
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Appearance:
As the women folk would describe him, Remy LeBeau is tall, dark, and handsome. He is approximately 6 feet two inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. His physique is lean and muscular; with an apparent six pack of abs and toned chest. Overall he has light body hair aside from trademark wisps on his chest extending to his abdominal region and downwards - or aso-called "happy-trail." his The Ragin' Cajun also possesses straight, dark brown hair of just above shoulder length (which he often puts in a short pony tail or parts) and a set of black eyeballs with red irises. At times his eyes can flare up with crackles of red or purple kinetic energy when he is using his powers. Generally he keeps his facial hair to be scruffy or shadowed as to accentuate his firm jawline and give him a rugged and masculine image. At times he can shave to give a more playful babyface to get on someone's good side.
Aware of the fact that he is undead however, Remy often takes excessive notice to how he appears and smells given that he cannot cast reflections and is essentially an animated corpse. Therefore he spares no expense in dousing himself in luxury cologne when not on missions and making sure his teeth are pearly-white clean after feedings. Also due to his condition Remy can never obtain new scar tissue from injuries or make body modifications such as tattoos because he will always revert back to his physical form on the day he died. Only his hair and fingernails can seemingly grow as a vampire. Formerly his complexion was sun-kissed tan, but ever since becoming a vampire Remy has had a distinct paler tone of undeath on his skin that is cold to the touch. This is because a vampire's body temperature is drastically lower than that of a mortals (around 45-50 degrees farenheit). Furthermore, the digested blood in Remy's body is thicker and darker than that of mortals. This is commonly called "ichor" because of its syrupy texture.
Special Features: Black eyeballs with red irises, elongated canines/vampire fangs, retractable fingernail claws,
Clothing: Most of the time, Remy LeBeau carries himself as a cool and collected man sporting a devilish smile and a playful glance as to eschew his cavalier personality. For civilian clothing, Remy LeBeau vacillates somewhere between a rugged country boy, a metrosexual French model, and a fashionable southern gentleman depending on the occasion. You're just as likely to see him comfortable in snakeskin boots and blue jeans as you would to see him in a business suit. He also has an affinity for head-bands, sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, trench coats, and leather jackets. Some of his favorite colors are purple, red, fuschia, black, tan brown, and baby blue.
Special Clothing: When he's in need of protection - Remy LeBeau wears his Thieves Guild body armor, and trademark brown trench-coat. This arrangement provides more protection than your average X-Men Uniform (such as from gunshots and other kinetic impacts) without restricting his overall mobility.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Personality:
Whether he's in the midst of battle or at the poker table, Remy LeBeau is a cool and collected individual who always wants to appear in control of the situation even when he is not. To others his smug, cavalier-like attitude may be seen as either arrogant or endearing. Remy certainly loves to portray himself as a lovable scamp or dangerous badboy. Most of the time Remy prefers to laugh things off and make sarcastic jokes instead of seeking unnecessary personal conflict with others. This shows that he prefers friendship and having a good time over anything else. Though he is normally a free-spirit and risk-taker who likes to live life in its excess, Remy LeBeau is also a consummate professional and dependable friend X-Men who can get the job done. With women in particular, Remy is often very flirtatious and charming although he is also a bit of a chivalric, old-fashioned southern gentleman. His thick Cajun accent also highlights this image.
However when he is pushed, the Ragin' Cajun is also a proud man who doesn't back down from those who insult or challenge him or those he protects. His predatory nature as a vampire and thirst for living blood give him a darker edge that makes him highly vindictive if not deadly in lieu of his mutant powers and skillset as a professional thief and assassin. This is in stark contrast to his alternate universe counterparts who are often more merciful towards their enemies. Thankfully due to a serum given to him by his home dimensions Hank McCoy - he can usually reign in his strong emotions and feral urges a vampire and consciously choose whether or not to act on such impulses. For routine feedings he prefers to target the "real" bad guys or those who are on the fringes of society such as prostitutes. Seldom will he drain someone to the point of death unless he feels they deserve it.
Due to his reputation as a thief, gambler, and ladies' man - some may view Remy with disdain or caution as if he's some sort of smooth talking charlatan out to get them. This can often sometimes the case due to Remy's quick wit, strong poker face, and veteran streets smarts often help him attain his goals. As a result of his harsh upbringing as an orphan and his occupation as a professional thief, Remy LeBeau often comes across as a mysterious drifter to those who first meet him. This is because he has a natural tendency to conceal his past, vampiric unlife, or true motivations from others as a means of protecting himself. He doesn't really want his past to catch up with him, nor does he want to be really judged by others who haven't spent a day in his shoes.
As an anti-hero and vampire, Remy morally grey in his actions due to his innate sense of rugged independence and self-preservation. Therefore he generally has few qualms about stealing things, fighting dirty, blowing property up, or even charming/seducing others to achieve an objective. That being said however, Gambit is also a gentleman's thief of sorts who never intends to severely bankrupt, harm, or kill, his targets unless he feels its correct to do so. However he's also a professional criminal who understands that sometimes dirty deeds that need to be done. Compared to his mainstream counterpart he is more likely to be bloodthirsty due to the world he grew up in and his vampiric nature. Also many times his conscience gets the better of him, and Gambit has a natural protectiveness and loyalty towards friends, family, or those truly in need of help. Sometimes this can make him undependable if his loyalties conflict. He also harbors a deep sense of regret for becoming a vampire and also being unable to save his former wife Belladonna from being murdered.
Skills:
Remy LeBeau possesses a unique skill-set that would make even a SHIELD agent gush. Due to his mutant powers and vampire physiology his ranged weapon attacks (such as from his thrown cards) are propelled farther and more accurately than any normal human could ever hope to accomplish. For hand to hand combat, Remy specializes in the Savate style of French kickboxing. Although he is a master at wielding his telescopic bo-staff for melee weapons combat, Remy is also a skilled duelist and fencer. Finally, Remy is an accomplished acrobat who can seamlessly blend evasive maneuvering and colorful stunts within his combat repertoire into his own unique fighting style.
In his original universe of Earth-1298, Remy LeBeau had become the undisputed leader of the Unified Guild of Thieves of Assassins - a criminal profession he had trained from since boyhood. Even before becoming a vampire, Gambit had already become a professional thief and hitman who had successfully thwarted the authorities (including SHIELD) for years due to his aptitude for thievery, stealth, and numerous supplementary skills needed to excel in that craft. Likewise he had also become a charismatic and calculating leader among his guild. That being said Remy's street-smarts are without parallel, and his cunning and patience have allowed him to get away with some rather big heists in his time.
Due to his upbringing in New Orleans, Remy LeBeau has a penchant for being a master card-shark, master gambler, and risk assessor as well. His ethnic background as a Cajun makes him bi-lingual with the ability to speak both English and French fluently. He also knows a little bit of Japanese. In the social arena, Remy is a prominent ladies man who is capable of swooning a variety of types of women off their feet due to his good looks, hypnotic charm, and his intuitive understanding of what women really want. Also in general, Remy LeBeau prides himself as a mostly self-sufficient man who can look after himself. Due to his vampiric nature and time spent with his sire Bloodstorm, Gambit of Earth 1298 also has a decent understanding/awareness of the occult - though he is far from being a sorcerer himself.
Weapons / Gear (if any): On Remy LeBeau's person, he'll normally carry around several decks of playing cards and his telescopic bo-staff which is tempered from high-grade steel composite. For missions he'll often carry around useful tools related to his criminal skillsets. Knives, throwing spikes, and bolas are often backup weapons he may carry around. Also through mental command, Gambit can extend his canine teeth and fingernails into razor sharp fangs and claws that can cut through normal human tissue and bone with ease.
Alignment: Anti-Hero
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Powers:
With the mutant power of molecular acceleration, Remy LeBeau can take the potential energy stored within inorganic/non-living matter (normally objects), and convert them to kinetic energy. Usually this leads an object to detonate explosively. Finally, Remy can channel his power through direct skin contact or through mediums such as his telescopic bo-staff.
Remy's powers to tap into kinetic energy has given him him superhuman physical enhancement beyond normal human levels (even before becoming a vampire) because his body is built for constant motion due to its constant generation of bio-kinetic energy. Therefore either directly or indirectly he has enhanced strength (only due to accelerated forces), speed, reflexes and reactions, agility, flexibility, dexterity, coordination, balance, and endurance (because he expends less stamina to move). His body in general also creates a static interference that shields his mind from telepathic detection and intrusion. On rare occasion, Remy had even demonstrated the ability to accelerate his body's natural healing rate by boosting his cells with increased energy output.
Finally, whether he realizes it or not, Remy subtly influences others to his own liking. This is due to his mind subconsciously manipulating the kinetic energy of other people's brainwaves. In effect this power generally makes the Ragin' Cajun seem very likeable, believable, and agreeable when he is in the presence of others. As a result, ladies often fall prey to his flirty behavior for example. Especially powerful minds/wills can prove resistant Remy's charm - especially those who are aware of him possessing this particular mutant ability.
As a mutant-turned vampire however, Remy has an additional host of properties. Through being sired by the vampire Bloodstorm (his reality's Storm turned by Dracula), the so-called "Vambit" is a powerful creature of unlife. In optimum conditions he can lift up to 3 tons due to his superhuman strength and he likewise possess superhuman speed ( at least fast enough to outrun speeding sportscars by foot), superhuman senses (even night vision), superhuman stamina (he can exert himself for hours on end without beginning to tire), superhuman agility/reflexes and superhuman tracking well beyond those levels found in normal humans and animals.
Due to being one of the immortal undead - Gambit also has a limited degree of superhuman durability because he is not truly living - but mystically animated into a form of unlife. He is immune to aging and disease and isn't affected by most mortal impediments such as needing air to breathe. He can often survive or recover from traumas that would normally kill or cripple an ordinary human being though it is still possible to harm, injure, or kill him in the vampire-sense. He is even capable of regenerating damaged or destroyed tissue through a regenerative healing factor that can heal minor injuries in seconds or minutes and major ones in hours or days. However he can't regenerate whole missing limbs or organs on his own. Ingesting fresh blood or using his mutant kinetic abilities can further speed this along.
Remy can also use direct hypnotic charm/mnd control through making a penetrating gaze of eye-contact that can crush the willpower of most mortals and make them obey his verbal or telepathic commands or suggestions. His ability with this is enhanced beyond that of normal vampires due to his kinetic charm abilities.
Finally Remy can shapeshift into various predatorial creatures of the night such as bats, wolves, and rats while retaining his own level of intelligence in such forms. He can also summon and command such creatures of the night too. He can also shapeshift into a form of insubstantial mist that allows him to fly through the air at low speeds or pass through cracks between solid objects.
It is also possible for Remy to have a hidden potential for clairvoyance like his Earth-616, such as through Tarot reading, but Gambit-1298 has yet to discover such abilities.
Strengths:
When using his mutant powers to "charge" objects - the mass of said object generally determines how large and effect the blast radius is. He can also time his detonations. Normally Remy options to use smaller objects such as playing cards to act as portable and light, hand-held grenades. Large or dense objects generally take longer to charge. A boulder could only take a few seconds, whereas the robotic leg of a Sentinel would take longer. If he chooses to accelerate the existing kinetic energy of an object instead of converting its potential energy, this can lead to the object moving faster or becoming even more destructive. Even at his previous human-like levels of strength before becoming a vampire, Remy had been capable of charging his bo-tsaff with enough kinetic force to level houses and alleyways when swung.
When using his mutant powers to augment his physical or hypnotic vampire abilities however, the Ragin' Cajun becomes a unique creature of the night on his own when one draws correlations between abilities. In combat due to his enhanced strength, speed, and agility/reflexes he can wield even faster and more destructive kinetic forces than his former human self. For example he can dodge bullets with ease though dedicated superhuman speedsters like Quicksilver will still outpace him by a longshot. Also unike other vampires, Gambit has a high degree of control over his vampiric and can walk in the daylight without being harmed by the sun's rays. Like any other vampire, Gambit can turn mortals into vampires by drinking from them to the point of death and injecting them with a specially secreted enzyme from his saliva. With any mortal's blood he drinks he may share an empathic link (though this can be resisted by strong-willed people) and this bond becomes telepathic should he sire a vampire.
Weaknesses:
Due to his normal-level intellect, pre-occupation with other matters, and being only self-trained with his powers, Gambit's ability to manipulate kinetic energy is currently capped though it is theoretically possible for him to expand his powers someday with proper exploration and guidance. That being said Gambit cannot merely look at non-living or organic matter in order to will it's kinetic energy to be molecularly accelerated. Rather he must physically touch the matter first - whether through direct physical touch or channeling the energy through another medium such as his telescopic bo-staff. The necessity for physical proximity to his targets can present tactical threats or other dangers to emerge from time to time. This is primarily why Gambit prefers to use ranged weaponry and bo-staff in his acrobatic fighting style.
If he were ever to try and train reach his full potential, Gambit would no longer be limited to inorganic/non-living material. At his peak he wouldn't even need need to physically touch objects to turn to turn their potential energy into kinetic energy. Or alternatively even just manipulate existing kinetic energy. Rather he could perform this task by merely concentrating on an object within his line of sight. Moreover Remy could possibly accomplish phenomenal kinetic feats such as make objects to be immovable or unstoppable in motion, cause or simulate various energies by manipulating their kinetic energy present, or even transform himself into a being of energy that can travel through time, space, and other dimensions. However each of these unique abilities currently remain beyond of Remy LeBeau's present capabilities.
As a vampire, Gambit possesses numerous weaknesses despite his formidable powers of darkness and ability to retain his mutant powers, memories, and skills from his mortal life. A wooden stake or silverblade through his heart can destroy or incapacitate him. Any weapons made from such materials can cause him physical pain though silver arguably the more formidable material (ex. silver chains can agonizingly bind him). However if such implements are removed from his body after a staking/impalement it is possible for him to resume his mystical unlife and reanimate in time. Beheading can and extensive damage to the majority of his body can also kill him - however he can reanimate if the missing "pieces" are ever restored. Fire is especially effective against him with this in mind. The most permanent conventional way to kill him for good however would be to stake him, behead him, burn his remains, and scatter his ashes around the globe.
Due to permanent mystical wards against vampires on Earth and many of its alternate dimensions, Gambit cannot enter the private dwellings of mortals without their consent. He cannot be detected in mirrors, photographs, or digital mediums. Aside from his strong allergy to silver he also has an aversion to garlic, though while not harmful, can be distracting or downright repelling to his vampire senses. Holy symbols can also repel him or burn his flesh - though only if their users have strong religious faith in the religion they attempt to invoke. Also since vampires are supernatural creatures - certain forms of magic and spellcraft are also strong measures against him.
As a vampire, Remy requires the blood of living or freshly slain creatures for sustenance. He must consume a few pints of blood every other day. The blood of humans (or mutants) is the most appealing to his tastes. Poisoned or radioactive blood can impair him/make him feel ill. When he has not fed recently, Gambit's physicial condition will begin to deteriorate as if he began rapidly aging or starving to death.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND
History:
Aside from hailing from a world where many of its super-powered inhabitants have different origins or moral outlooks than their mainstream Earth-616 counterparts, much of Remy LeBeau's origins stay intact until his adult life. Abandoned by his birth parents at infancy due to his mutant eyes, a Cajun child by the given name of Remy became a ward of the state of Louisiana some 35 years ago. Consequently the boy grew up at an impoverished orphanage in the city of New Orleans during most of his early childhood. Even at a young age Remy would display a certain disregard for the authorities as he would frequently escape the institution in the hopes of finding a place to belong since no "normal" families would want to take him him. As a result, the mutant child flocked to the rough lifestyle of a street urchin and fell under the protective wing of a local street gang. It was under their guidance that Remy first became acquainted with the arts of thievery and stealth.
One summers day when he was around ten years of age, Remy had the misfortune of being caught trying to pickpocket a man by the name of Jean-Luc LeBeau. As it turned out, Jean-Luc was impressed by the boy's daring and potential. This was because the man was the patriarch of the Thieves' Guild, an ancient secret society of professional criminals. Realizing that the boy was a child of old prophecy, the so-called "Le Diable Blanc", Jean-Luc adopted the boy as his own son and took him off the harsh streets of New Orleans. After joining his new family of thieves, Remy "LeBeau" soon became a rising star within the guild and was groomed to be the Thieves' Guild heir apparent. Thus Remy in his teenager years was trained to be one of the world's most formidable criminals. After hitting puberty, Remy became better acquainted with his mutant powers and sought to control and utilize them as a means of becoming a better thief.
When Remy LeBeau was around 18 years of age, he was destined to be married to a woman by the name of Bella Donna Boudreaux; a longstanding childhood friend from the rival Assassins' Guild. Though this arranged union was assisted by their sincere feelings of love, in all actuality it was ordered by their respective families as a means to put a long-standing feud between the guilds to rest and hopefully one day unite them under one banner. Unfortunately at the day of the wedding this Romeo and Juliet romance almost met its end when Bella Donna's brother objected during the ceremony and challenged Remy to a personal duel. Unlike his mainstream universe counterpart however, Remy chose to defeat Julien without making a statement with his mutant powers. As a result Julien was the one to be exiled and shamed from the New Orleans underworld. When their parents retired by their early twenties, Remy and his bride brought the Unified Guild to greater heights as one of the world's premier criminal organizations and simultaneously predicted and honed their skills and leadership as the best thieves and assassins. Even people such as Mr. Sinister or the X-Men became dependent on their contracts in light of the growing conflict between humans and superhumans.
However during one such contracted mission for Mr. Sinister where the Ragin' Cajun joined forces with Bloodstorm (a recent mutant-turned-vampire Ororo Monroe) to rescue clone children from Apocalypse and his horsemen, Remy was mortally wounded. At his request, which he would later regret, Remy then begged Bloodstorm to be his vampire sire and spare him from true death. Resurrected as a vampire shortly thereafter in a New Orleans cemetery, Gambit would then go on to protect the girl clone (Raven) when Mr. Sinister now sought to kill her since the mad scientist favored the boy (Nate Gray) as the superior clone anyways.
Not willing to quarrel with a deadly undead foe, Mr. Sinister left Gambit and the girl be and considered their agreement to be finished. Thereafter Remy went back to the Guild and his wife and lamented his new existence as one of the undead (due to having to fight his urges and other drawbacks). Nevertheless they adopted Raven as their own daughter However to the rest of the organization Remy was able to fool everyone into believing he wasn't really a vampire. Meanwhile he kept in close contact with his sire Storm and loyally served both her and the Six (a splinter group of the X-Men) over the years.
Further tragedy would occur however years later when Julien Boudreaux sold out the Guild's secrets and hidden base to SHIELD, a villainous organization of Earth-1298 that sought to kill all superhumans. As a result when SHIELD attacked - Bella Donna was brutally killed and most of the guild was destroyed and scattered. With nothing but revenge and blood on his mind - Remy readily joined the ranks as the Six as an official replacement member for one of their deceased members and he simultaneously sent his adopted daughter (after rescuing her from SHIELD) to live in peace and safety with Magneto and the X-Men (who lived on the Earth's moon) when living on Earth became too dangerous in his opinion. In addition Hank McCoy was able to develop provide both Remy and Bloodstorm a special serum that would permanently allow them to daywalk and better control their bloodthirsty urges as vampires.
Recently during one of his periods of time-off in New York between officially missions however - that all seemingly changed when the ruptures in dimensional rifts between time and space in the multiverse occurred and consequently sent Earth-1298 Gambit to another reality far different than his own. So far he is eager to learn about his alternate universe counterparts and possibly assume their identities since getting back to his home-dimension (which seems far bleaker than most by comparison) seems to be utterly impossible for the time being. In recent weeks has begun to replace the identity of his mainstream counterpart in Earth 616.
RP Sample:
[Sort of a what-if Vampire Gambit replaced his mainstream counterpart at the X-Mansion, may have not happened yet]
After half way into the Aerosmith song, during the lyrical snippet of “You're packin' up your stuff and talkin' like it's tough and tryin”, the loud roars of an approaching Harley suddenly blared into the garage's concrete halls. This raucous noise originated from the X-Mansion's grounds outside, just beyond the garage's metal doors. Such was the force of an 90 horsepower engine. Not even epic guitar riffs and screeching wails from the rock music could muffle this metal beast's impending arrival; especially when the garage's steel doors rolled themselves upwards as to reveal the motorbike and its intrusive operator. Lo' and behold the rider turned out to be none other than Remy LeBeau – a fellow teammate to the southern belle named Rogue.
Such a noisy entrance on Gambit's part wasn't his intention however. In fact, he was trying his darnedest to not rev the bike’s engine up more than he had to. This wasn't just a gentleman's courtesy being extended to the lovely Rogue, whose bodacious presence he immediately noticed upon rolling into the garage. Rather he simply didn't want to attract too much attention to himself aside from his pecularities as one of the undead. His ruse to masquerade as this current dimensions Remy LeBeau had given him a lot more to look forward to these days. There was a lot less tragedy and heartache in this non-dystopian realm. And vampire or not Gambit was intent on being himself and taking advantage of that fact.
The truth behind today's escapade was that this expensive bike didn't really belong to Remy at all. It actually belonged to the X-Men's overgrown boy-scout and squad leader Scott Summers instead. The sneaky thief from New Orleans had simply“borrowed” the Harley last night for an impromptu trip to New York City all by his lonesome. All for a high-stakes poker tournament and a few pints of blood at a hotel in fact. Naturally, Remy didn't ask for permission in this endeavor because he figured no one would have noticed the temporary heist even by today's afternoon. It's not like Scott would have agreed anyways given the ol' swamp rat's penchant for mischief and wrecking his own vehicles in showboating stunts. Therefore a bit of discretion was somewhat necessary for Remy while he swiftly parked the bike back into the spot where he had originally found it. This so just happened to be the stall sitting directly opposite of Rogue's.
”Dere. Not a scratch on dis' beaut.”' Remy softly mused in his Cajun accent as he popped out the bike's kickstand by foot. After resting the bike into its stationary position and turning off its still humming engine, he then promptly unsaddled himself from the motorcycle. So far his mission had been safely accomplished or so it seemed. Of course, slyly returning Scott Summer's missing Harley keys was another matter to attend to for later this afternoon. Beneath the garage's floodlights, such pressing concerns didn't wear themselves on Mr. LeBeau's visage. In fact he seemed as cool and collected in disposition as ever. His playful eyes and devilish smirk regardless, Remy was also stylishly dressed in a black leather jacket, his favorite pair of Levi blue jeans, a faded purple t-shirt, and one fancy set of snakeskin cowboy boots. It was surely a befitting look for a rebellious Louisiana country boy who appeared to not have a single care in the world.
Arguably the free-spirited Remy had a right to think that way currently. It seemed like he could get away with the perfect crime as no major fouls or slip-ups had been made. Moreover no one had bothered to call his cellphone, track him down in the Big Apple, or harass him outright upon his return to Westchester County. Only possibly Rogue herself could be privy to some of his antics due to noticing him being gone, but for the moment she seemed preoccupied with her mechanical hobbies and old rock music at the moment. Moreover Remy was a gamblin' man who would bet his own soul that this lovely southern belle wouldn't be one to sell him out. Though he wasn't privy to his other selves' full history with the woman, he couldn't ignore the obvious chemistry and refuse her company.
”Hot damn.” Remy then thought to himself as his eyes then surreptitiously glanced over at Rogue for a better look over now that he was off the bike. His red eyes momentarily twinkled with wonder and entrancement as he approvingly analyzed Rogue's beautiful face, buxom figure, highly-revealing attire. The fact that this southern belle had skill as a wrench-monkey was certainly endearing too. Gambit always liked a strong woman who wasn't afraid to get down and dirty. Needless to say his mind was blown from all what he witnessed. More alarmingly, he found his gut starting to churn with an odd feeling that he hadn't felt in many years since Bella Donna had tragically murdered. Almost as if Rogue caused him a vibe that was more akin to a teenage crush instead of the usual crude attraction he felt towards women from his loins. Or his vampiric hunger for that matter.
”You losin' it man.” the Cajun consequently wistfully contemplated in momentary response as he awaited for Rogue to take notice of him. When that didn't happen he decided to make the first move.Slicking back his windswept locks of hair by hand to seem more presentable, Remy then decided to pay a direct visit Rogue and her jeep once the Aerosmith song was about to finish. 'Ey chere. Fancy seeing you here.” the Louisianan stud jovially said aloud with a pleasant grin as he strolled on over.
